10JanCloned Livestock

Are we ready for this? I think it will be a shame if this goes through. I mean, I understand the goal of genetically engineering things in order to reach “perfection” and in this context it is merely enhanced selective breeding to the utmost level. But, I do not want to be eating essentially the same cow every time I have a steak or eating the same piece of fruit or vegetable for the rest of my life. It’s like that feeling you get when you see one of those plantation forests… all the trees growing, perfectly lined up in neat little rows… it looks great in a way, seeing a pattern, structure, and order. Then you get that sinking feeling, like, it really shouldn’t be this way.

It is unnatural… We are messing with things a little too much for the sake of profit and efficiency. Not too mention the fact that we really do not know what the effects on our own health may be after the ingestion of these genetically modified products, especially long term. Wasn’t it only a short while ago that Dolly the sheep was cloned? And even then, she lived half her usual lifespan and it took over 250 attempts to reach the stage where a live birth was successful without abnormalities? Are we already at the mass production stage of cloning animals? I feel that we as humans are being a little too hasty with genetic engineering in this respect and getting ahead of ourselves a bit.
